Presented here for consideration is a PRISTINE Royal Doulton “Fox Hunting” series ware rack plate. Royal Doulton produced many series depicting hunting scenes as it was primarily a leisure pursuit of the landed gentry. This series is “Fox Hunting A”, it went into production in 1931, the range was added to in 1938 and it had been withdrawn in 1950. Attached to my Nicholnack art in pottery website I have built a R.D. Fox Hunting fact-file regarding this series. In my fact-file I identify information relevant to dating items, along with photos of most of the shapes that this series comes in and the six scenes that make up this series. This is scene 1; “The hunt meeting a donkey and cart”. It bears the black stamped under glaze maker’s mark of the style that was in use from 1932; stamped beneath this in maroon is the pattern name and number D5104. Impressed into the base is the date code 3-37: March 1937. It measures in with a 26 cm (10.25”) diameter. It is in AS NEW condition; with no chips, cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. This is exactly the same as it was the day it came out of the factory when it was brand spanking new; 75 years ago.
