Presented here for consideration is a delightful Royal Doulton Bluebell Gatherers vase (shape 7018). This series was introduced in 1914 and it had been withdrawn from production by 1928. Bluebell Gatherers consists of 12 individual scenes. For a complete list of the scenes and all the inside running on this series, see the Bluebell Gatherers fact file attached to my art in pottery – also see the Royal Doulton Shapes fact file where I have over 400 photos of various Royal Doulton Shapes & there sizes. This is scene 11: “Woman stooping.” It has a maroon stamped maker’s mark and the pattern number D.3812 is hand written on the base in Maroon ink. Dimensions This very sweet vase stands 6.5 cm (2.5”) tall and it measures 7 cm (2.8”) diagonally across at its broadest.
Condition It is in EXCELLENT used condition, with NO chips, cracks or repairs. As is most often the case with production of this style and vintage it is crazed – in my oppion this crazing imparts a delightful antique patina. There is a tiny under glaze firing crack in one corner of the mouth – it only measures 4 mm and it is most defiantly under the glaze – it is only on the inside and not on the outside – I have to mention this minor production flaw for complete accuracy, but believe me it really is nothing (see exteremly close up photo below). This really is a delightful example of this colourful and very sort after series. This is a very hard to come by series, this is the first time I have ever been lucky enough to have an example of a vase in this series.
