Presented here for consideration is a magical Martin Boyd cup and saucer hand painted with a delightful aboriginal scene. Depicted on the cup is an Aborigine throwing a boomerang, this is over a light blue gloss ground. The inside of the cup is a dusky pink. The saucer is decorated with a brown and black strip of sgraffito decoration. The art work on this set is just outstanding and so very Australian. The saucer is not marked, but the cup is marked ”Martin Boyd, Australia”. This style of mark was first introduced in 1946, I would hazard a guess that this set dates from the 1950’s. The saucer has a diameter of 15.5 cm (5.4”). When the cup is on the saucer it is 6.5 cm (2.5”) tall. It is in EXCELLENT condition; there are NO chips, cracks, stains or repairs. AS is most often the case with production of this style and vintage it does exhibit some crazing which imparts a delightful antique patina. Boyd’s decorated with aboriginal motifs are hot property on collectables block. Hit the BUY IT NOW tab and so this magical art work will be yours.
