Royal Doulton Toilet Set Shapes Royal Doulton produced at least six different styles of toilet set, Mayfair, Lagoon, Flagon, Aldwych, Aubrey and Argosy. Toilet sets are very hard to come by; from time to time when such items do come available they are generally in quite poor condition. I cannot be absolutely sure why, but I would hazard as a guess that it is because they are hardly glamorous. I cannot be sure when toilet sets went out of fashion, but I would expect there would have been very little call for them by the early 1920’s.
Even in there hay day these Toilet Sets would have only been purchased by the wealthy or those who where upwardly mobile and of course once such people where hooked up to the plumbing they would have been quick to discard the toilet sets no matter how beautiful they where. The only use the larger items could have had was as elaborate under trays for pot plants. The rarest of the toilet set items is of course the slops bucket, these where large cumbersome and hard to store – I would go so far as to say that Slops buckets are now positively rare.
