These cake trays come with an EPN&S handle that fits into the two holes on each end. These trays are not a very common shape to find, it is very rare to find them with there handle intact. All of the examples of this shape that I have seen seem to date from the 1930's onwards (or course as soon as I say this is the rule some swine is going to prove me a liar).

Chop Plate

Chop dishes are thought of as a child of the 1950’s, but they seem to have gone into production in the late 1930's or very early 1940's and they do not have hanging holes in the rim. Doulton also manufactured a Wall Plaque or Charger, these come in 2 sizes 34.5 cm (13.5") and 39.5 cm (15.5"). Chargers differ from chop dishes that are of slightly lighter construction and that they have 3 holes in the rim for threading a wire for hanging.
