W&R Carlton Ware Blush Ware Christmas Cactus PDF Print E-mail

Originally, when I was building my W&R Blush Ware fact files, I could not find a name for this pattern so I called it Daffodils as that is what the flowers reminded me of. But Harvey at Carlton Ware World has pointed out that this pattern has been known for some time as Christmas Cactus. After some consideration I have decided to go with this name as the image resembles Christmas Cactus more than it does Daffodils.

The one problem that this causes is that I supplied this photo to the Kosniowskis for “Carlton Ware – The Complete Guide” – this photo appears on page 9 with the name Daffodil, which is now not correct.

I am led to belive that Christmas Cactus is the common name in the UK, so I guess that is how the name caught on. In New Zealand Zygocactus are known as called Thick & Thin Cactus

Hi Bruce
As well as being an art deco, and a Carlton Ware collector, I spend a lot of time in my garden, and actually grow these.Their common name here in QLD is "Crab Cactus", but their correct botanical name is "Zygocactus". Just thought you might be interested. Thanks,
