Rare Carlton Ware Rossetta Vase sold on eBay PDF Print E-mail

 Image

The eBay seller miller9222 from Halifax in the UK had an interesting item on eBay last week - Carlton Ware Geometric Tree Small Vase item 190404930328.

In the nicholnack fact files we identify this pattern as Rosetta. The item on eBay had a clear photo of the pattern number, which was 3642. The only number that I have ever seen recorded against Rosetta is 3505.

If one looks at the vase you can see subtle differences between the eBay item and the example in the fact files. It is my belief that this is a variation on the Rosetta pattern and that 3642 is a second number issued against this pattern.  The Vase was only 7.5 cm tall. It sold for $205.88 Aust (120.99 GBP); for a pattern as rare as Rosetta and considering it is an unrecorded pattern number - I believe this was good value for the canny collector who purchased it. The image below is our file imagefrom the factfiles - compare the two.

G,day Jody; I presume you are referring to the W&R Carlton Ware Long Tailed Bird & Tree Peony. See the http://nicholnack.com.au/wiltshaw-robinson-patterns/w-r-patterns-2000-to-2600-1916-to-1922-era.html There are three pattern numbers registered against this motif; they are 2634 mother of pearl lustre ground - 2832 light blue lustre ground - 2834 light blue lustre ground. I am sure your items are marked W&R. As to date I have only ever seen this pattern with a W&Rat mark. They would have a production window between 1922 & 1926. I am sorry but we do not offer a valuation service. Quote:

Thanks Ian - so maybe the pattern number on the vase may be wrong - it seems the more we know we realize how little we really know - Quote:
Check out eBay number 190408868636 - the same seller has today (June 23, 2010) listed a bowl in the same pattern that they are again calling Geometric Tree. This time the pattern number is as you quote 3505 and the variation seems to be the same as the fish bowl vase above.
