Carlton Ware introduced the Heron And Magical Tree pattern in 1937 and it was in production up until the late 1950’s. The highly stylized tree is classic Art Deco and the colourful Heron is simple marvelous. It was produced in at least eleven colour-ways, three of which have under glaze decoration. I am told by enthusiasts of this pattern that there are seven different sized Heron used on the almost countless shapes and sizes that this pattern was applied to.

Just too really confuse; example of this colour-way can be found with the pattern number 3843. It is believed that this is the pattern number for the colour-way and that Carlton Ware had these examples in a warehouse and that it was not selling, so they elected to decorate it with the Heron and Magical tree as this was proving popular.

Quoting Carlton Collector:
This is an amazing page. I had no idea there were so many colourways in this pattern. Which do you think is the rarest.

Heron and Magical tree is a great pattern. It comes in around 10 colour-ways and many shapes. The rarest colour-way is the pink lustre and the steel blue. I have only seen one eample of each.
